I think the objective was 2 fold. 1 keep them to 1 and stay in the game (albeit riding our luck) and 2, trying players in different positions as lets face it our season won't be decided on Derby & Boro away. I think what Redfearn is realising is no matter the permutation it amounts to the same problems. How long he'll persist with G.Ward I dunno, to get the best he clearly needs a midfield behind him who can control the game so he can roam free. All our strikers are not good enough for this league and because we're so weak we can't afford the luxury of using out and out wingers. I think the only 2 players worthy of staying in the back 5 are Camp who we probably pay a pretty penny for and Rawson who isn't ours. It all looks very worrying even now. I don't think we have the money to do anything of significance in January. Redfearn needs 2 summers, I'm almost certain he's a better draw to play for than Evans, lets at least give him that.
4-2-3-1 is the only formation that will get us points with these players, it closes space in midfield protects the back 4 and provides quantity when counter attacking. We have the players for this as well when played in the correct position. The key here is the 2 and it should be smallwood and thorpe, je hasn't played them together yet in this formation.
