No Newell either according to reports. We still have options. It will be Green plus one of Andreu (my preferred option), Thorpe (decent option but he is a centre back), G Ward (high risk option), Halford (wrong option) or Ledesma (not really an option). We are not really 'thin'. Thanks to the Leeds boss we have loads of midfielders. Contrary to his own pre-season statements however it is an absolute triumph of quantity over quality.

Well it turned out to be Green plus three of those mentioned, because Redfearn sensibly used what he had at his disposal and played quite narrow. Green was OK, Andreu was good, G Ward was less of a risk in a narrow midfield than centrally as one of two and was good, and Thorpe clearly is (I now accept) a highly accomplished central midfielder. As a unit they were excellent. Because we were so narrow we suffered a bit when Reading switched play quickly, but the upside was that we passed the ball through midfield well instead of just banging it over midfielders heads all night. If fit, Newell would come in for Green for me for Friday and perhaps Smallwood for G Ward just for that combativeness in a (hopefully) fiery derby game.

I see you are taking my advice
yes, redders did very well indeed last night managing the team and tactics. very impressed.
Perhaps I did subliminally take your advice on board! At least I don't yet refer to myself as Smiler in the third person. When I start doing that, give me a shout. It is all downhill from there (or up the M1 - however you prefer to put it).
