This is nothing short of a job CV statement. This is what was missed.
1. The biggest turnover of players in the whole of the 92 english league clubs in 3yrs and possibly Europe
2. A total disregard of budget waste management
3. A total disregard of those members of 'staff' so poorly scouted by his brother that they end up in new geographic locations to play football only to become very expensive gym goers
4. A total disregard for effectively planning anything beyond the next transfer window, including natural squad recycling and ensuring a pathway for young talent from academy > reserves > 1st team
5. Not putting into practise the technical elements taught at UEFA badge level, evident in the style he insists his players adhere to.
6. A horrendous role model to any young fan and responsible for disdain from all parties including professional and qualified members of the FA, opposition parties and that of his own club through touchline antics which to date historically haven't reversed one on field decision from any manager or player and is extremely unlikely to do so in the future.
7. Despite such 'on field success', there aren't many members of support that are whole heartedly sad to see him leave, that in itself tells its own story.
8. Bizarre interactions with media which involve spin a political party would be proud of. Once declaring we laid siege to a goal and produced not one shot off or on target.
9. Still suffers from a poor reputation in the football world, much of it unfairly from regrettable actions that time was served for these offences but these will forever be hard to shake off, leading to a management style with always a point to prove or that which involves a siege mentality.
10. Strangely didn't refer to any or all of the more than admirable work in the community and should be recognised and not taken as 'proxy' for players & management in their community position.
11. The 'on field success' is subjective, and makes no reference to the resources and benefits of NYS / an agreeable and trusting board of directors had in L2 or L1, while this very same comparison is used extensively at CH level.
In summary, if you want results without a consideration of long term effects on the club particularly at L2 and L1 with more than adequate resources then SE is your man, however measurable success at CH level is inconclusive. With the reputations nationally and globally of most of the CH brand it is unlikely SE to manage a club here unless he gets them there, and unless short termism methodology isn't addressed, it's questionable how his management style can deliver sustainability at this level.
That statement is completely self-serving and is not in any way helpful to the club. He has spun the facts to present himself in the best possible light and has set his successor up to fail by implying that had he still been here we would have achieved a mid table finish minimum which I and I expect most others don't believe for a moment. It reads like he had a couple of injuries to a couple of last seasons players and sorted it by getting a couple in to give us a boost. That is simply not the case. This man recently described himself as a man of huge integrity but his history in the game is littered with evidence to the contrary. But then he has form for ignoring what to everyone else is obvious. Exeter is right to cite the example of us 'battering' teams when we have lost comfortably whilst barely mustering a shot on target. His mid-game rants and post-match analyses have at times been toe-curlingly embarrassing. He simply wasn't a good enough judge of a player to live up to his own promise to bring in quality over quantity. How else do you explain 88 players in just over three seasons and this time round bringing in 14 players and discarding some of them after a handful of games? Exeter is bang on right again - give this man a run at a division with a decent budget and he will do you a job, but at a cost that adds up to more than short term pounds and pence. In my judgment we made a mistake ever associating ourselves with Steve Evans whatever 'success' he brought us, and I for one am delighted we are rid of him. I didn't get the feeling on Friday that he will be in any way missed either on a football or a human level. Good luck to him and whoever gets him next. We move on.
I found it pretty vile to publicly declare that as a statement. Fine manipulate prospective employers with it, but to ram that down our throats takes a lot of swallowing. Hopefully it will be the last time the numpties have to discuss what he declares publicly
Can we make any discussion about SE O/T in future? We have a new manager to recruit and get behind, some challenging football to play and some serious observation and comment to indulge in. Anything else is a distraction!
No but it is sport / football related. It will naturally desist especially as soon as the new manager comes in, we'll all have so much to say about where they're going wrong

😃
Exeter, your piece reminded me of Mark Anthony: "I come not to praise Evans but to bury him"! remind me to keep on your good side (assuming you have one). You're spot on about the new manager and I'm already sharpening a few knives.

I thought the balance needed addressing - it made me angry
I thought for a minute you'd given up vaping! I did for a while and it made me grumpy as hell. Btw, what's with the new avatar? It lacks the in-your-face immediacy of the JC classic.
Thought I'd be less imposing, its an attempt to try and mellow into the background I think! Now SE has gone I think the shirt & tie, quiet reflection is more apt 😉
I might put evans in the O/T thread Glen, under the hero to zero debate.
I'm very sorry he has put out that statement. I know he's said plenty to balance it up over the years but he has put that out as his final word and as such it sucks.
I don't mind the self promotion at all but his cheap shot about budget linked to his success felt like a back stabbing betrayal. I might be too sensitive to that kind of thing
