Hi. I've just bought vol.1 of Sumption's Hundred Years War. Got it new on ebay with free p&p for £14.99. It's 672 pages and as I read in bed I may require wrist exercises to hold it. Will let you know what I think in due course but atm am wading through Boswell's six volumes on Dr Johnson and have a couple of Max Hastings books on WW2 next in line.
Still can't find Vol.2 at less than about £199 so keep a look out for me.
not at all, been really busy at work etc. Just read a history of the Templars by Haag, It was ok didn't learn much new. Just going to try the second book in the History of England by Ackroyd.

Sorry, mon ami, being retired I sometimes forget other people may have less time.
To be honest it's not all it's cracked up to be. I can see why lots of over 65s drink too much. Most people I know have bitten the bullet and started playing golf. I packed the game in 20 years ago and will never take it up again.
A pity you're so far off as I was going to ask if you fancied some of my history books as I'm running out of space. Shipping to NZ though is likely to be a bit steep!
I checked out a wargames forum I use today and there was a discussion on best books on WW2 in the Pacific. It's one of my areas of interest and I ended up buying six titles on ebay. These included Eagle Against the Sun by R.H.Spector, The Battle of Leyte Gulf by H.P.Willmott and the first volume (of three) of a well received history of the RAF against the Japanese airforce, Bloody Shambles.
