this is seriously not a dig at the players but apart from newell and free transfer gang what is stopping the players from coming
is it wages , rotherham united profile, evans
wages we are paying what the management term in our bracket but to increase the wages you need income and to get income you need more than 9000 on the gate. and currently with our performance it will go down
yes we are a small club in an over subscribed football county bournemouth are the same yes they are lucky with their backer
i have put the evans factor in the mix marmite he maybe but players talk In a management role you are not there to be liked but to get the best out the players by playing to their strengths and you have to be respected and this has to be earned i dont think none our team respect evans and his tactics this season.
1. Wages / agent / terms of deal
2. Geographic's / weather (seriously!) family?
3. League status / crowds / ambition
4. Facilities
5. Management
Can't see it swaying too much from that, as you can see the management factor must come pretty much low down the list for most players. How loyal are you to your employers? I would say job loyalty these days in most profession's has pretty much eroded to nothing, even more so in the 'job' of footballer. They all know what a privileged, short career it is, which offers little in terms of progression once the legs have gone.c
As relatively we are a top 8 L1 club infrastructure wise, we cannot even come close to other players who have other championship options. I don't believe a lot of the spin that comes from our management that they choose us over 'a number of other championship clubs'. Such a statement can never be proved it just looks good. When you get into number 2, lets be honest, Rotherham is not seen as an attractive area to live, and then 3 goes back to small fish large pond. 4 in L1 would have been a selling point, in this league much less so. 5 I agree players will talk and have their circles, but I'd bet the amount of signings that fail at this decision point is very very few. So from this you can probably see what we're up against signing players. That's not to say its impossible, just more background work done to filter out those targets that would have a higher signing success rate. Then play those players in areas / what they do best but I won't get into that 😉
Would agree with most of that Exeter, but are players really that fickle. Yes the pay is a huge draw and who can blame them for snapping up a good deal, but I would have thought another big positive over pay would be to sign for a club where you can develop to your best ability and maybe be get snapped up by a bigger outfit, put yourself in the shop window as they say.
On the managerial point I would never go to work for somebody like ***** , regardless of the pay. In my time I have twice walked out of a job with reasonable pay because the manager/directors have been despots, I wont have it, I have too much self respect. But then again I'm 'old school'.
Of course I'm only surmising, I think that's the general gist, not all will conform. I would be that fickle if it were me. Being a glorified gym goer on 10k a week, who on earth would turn that down? as opposed to 5k a week but playing every week
Ex, i once went to see Theo pathetis of Dragons den fame, and as you know he was a millwall director, he said the economics of football do not match anything in the real world, players this, players that, agents, then the ground was falling down etc.
So when SE and TS are spouting off about not breaking budgets and wage structures so we dont get back to the bad old days, which i commend, but the reality is we are doomed to always be where we are, which i am not having a pop at, far from it, I am quite happy for this. But how do we fund the stadium expansion? i personally dont think this will happen.
Unless more money is coming into the club via investors.
QPR are fighting off a FL action to fine them a considerable amount of money when they dropped into the FL, but they have Tony Fernades who likes to spend a bob or two.
Get used to 5 loan players, unless someone comes in and buys TS out and moves the club to the next level, which for me is around the 13/14th place in the division.
Our football tactics have to change, and this is where SE needs to sort it out - 2nd half of the match against Charlton at home last season was some of the best football i have seen recently, we played with "well if you score 3 we will score 4" attitude, where's that gone.
TS and SE are wanting football Utopia in regard to how a club is run, but the reality is the big carrot of £100m Premier League payment is for some clubs worth the gamble.
Wow! What a thread! Intelligent, civil and well put. Got to agree with the points put across by all posters so far as they all pretty much compliment and agree with each other
I pretty much agree with what Towdlad says, that I couldn't see myself playing for Evans.
It's no good running your bol*ocks off in a game only to find that Evans has made you his scapegoat when things haven't gone right on the field. That must be demoralising for any player and I've seen it happen at our club.
So, the No1 reason why I wouldn't sign for the Millers would have to be who we've got as our manager.
We've had success under Evans there's no denying that, but as far as man-management goes, he's got a lot to learn.
We have a squad half the size of most and the quality we have is representative of the bench and reserves of others.
The main thing we can offer is a chance in the first team. That will be a draw for some. However, it relies on excellent scouting in both numbers and skill.
There must be a glut of over supply in the market but how many are sat on huge wages or waiting for the dream of a chance at a much bigger club and therefore lucrative and successful life.
I can't see much beyond this as the main factor.

Why the rejection?? Don't know, can only guess like everyone else. The best thing to do would be to say what you would do yourself as a footballer, (if you were good enough like !) Different factors play for different players, depending on age, family etc. For me, married (sort of) with no kids, I would not choose Rotherham as a place to live. I could live nearby, but then Sheffield isn't that great either. I like quiet, greenery, bla bla but I also like to go out (on foot) of an eve and like it lively too.... food, drink, the usual.... Rotherham / Sheffield... nar. I'm a proud Rovrummian but if I had no allegiance, I'd give it wide swerve.
All this assuming we are one of the lower payers in t'championship.
If I was a young man, (der diddle diddle...oops sorry not appropriate anymore !), if I was a young footballer though I'd go anywhere to get a contract to further my career, even Rotherham Utd. Evans is alright, he give players a chance...even Kanga the calamity keeper.
If Bournemouth and Rotherham were equal in finances and both mid table 2nd tier clubs (similar size fan base).....and putting Russian billionaires to one side. Lets say you would get similar contact here.... and there.... and you were from miles away from both towns...who would you sign for. I went to Bournemouth for last seasons match..... The north / south divide is huge nowadays...HUGE ! I notice it so v much now. I never did before. Do you know, they even have shoe shops and department store(s) and even effin cinemas there...

Andymonium....I am certain that you don't need any hints re the safety of children in Rotherham.
Exeter...The truth does sometime cause an over response but interestingly not a single statement has been contested..
The truth is that Rotherham is an unattractive place for many reasons and the only factor that breaks through the negative is money money money....something TS has not got to give away.
Hezookaka...Agree 100 per cent with your last post.

You are being so silly and deliberately confrontational hillsborough.
I am not making light of child abuse...I am saying that the child abuse scandal is a very big negative and will impact on families deciding whether to live in Rotherham or not.
Your post is even more ridiculous considering that I would guess but don't know that I have done much more than you in identifying and preventing the abuse of children.
It's just pathetic of you to confront in such a way.
Children living in Rotherham have been and still are at an increased risk of sexual abuse compared to other towns and cities.
Wind your neck in and stop trying to create trouble on here....
Such posts are more appropriate on MM so maybe you should consider returning and write your insulting stuff on there.
I will have no further discussion with you on this topic unless you have the decency to apologise which of course you have not.
