Advice needed - tablets

I just want a no-frills tablet mainly so I can work through my downloaded collection of WW2 aircraft, ships and AFVs (sad, I know) in bed.  I won't be watching movies or doing much on the internet.  Is the Tesco Hudl 2 OK?  I've heard of problems with the screen cracking but it gets very good reviews.

I use the Linx 10 windows tablet, £130 at Sainsburys last time I checked, its absolutely brilliant for the price. Not that you'd use it but it will upgrade to Windows 10 and you get 1 year free subscription to Office 365 (Word, Excel etc) and 1000Gb of online storage

Cheers, I'll check it out.  I have an online account with Sainsbury's and a couple of £10 vouchers to use up.

Kempo, please read my "sleepers and stalkers" post.  You qualify on both. Love to Malawi.biggrin On a more serious note I tried to follow your share tipping advice but may have got long confused with short.  Will this make a difference?

Thanks for the advice, Exeter.  However, I went for the Hudl 2 in part because I had a stack of Tesco Clubpoints to use up.

Good little Android device for the pennies, make good use of Google Drive which gives you free online storage, to back up your photo collection

The other thing was at 10" in bed I might have needed both hands.  With the Hudl I can hold it in one hand and keep the other free for cups of tea etc.  I shall follow your advice regarding the Google online storage.

Women are odd creatures.  I told the wife that I thought the 8.3" would be easier to handle in bed than the 10" and she said either would be a big improvement and burst out laughing.

If you check your emails and find that you have numerous margin calls.....then yes..it made a difference!

That's the word that comes to mind every time Kempo posts.  I showed my wife that photo of the hunk with his y-fronts over his head and she went, "Giggidy, giggidy, giggidy." She is though a very strange lass.hmm

Picked up the Hudl at the local Tesco.  Looks nice but as par for the course these date no user manual.  Just ordered one off ebay for £3.

Just a quick update on this which might help someone considering a tablet.  The screen on the Hudl is fantastic; sharp, bright, brilliant.  The downsides (which aren't that significant given a price tag of around £90) are imo:

Battery life.  Not a problem for me but might be if you're a heavy user away from a power point.

Bloatware and apps.  Too frigging many but there's a blog that guides you through getting rid of superfluous ones if you need it.

Memory.  Again, I just bought a 32 gig micro SD for £10 which slots in no problem.

Cameras.  Two of the f*ckers.  Waste of space.  It's too big a piece of kit to use as a camera anyway.  Daft idea.

All in all I reckon it's a great buy at the price.

One thing that narks me is camera, if you're what 25 - 60 you're unlikely to use it ever!

Speakers on the back also gets my goat

If you're a Millers Player subscriber try FLi Player it's really good for Android version of Player

Agreed, Exeter.  Forgot to say in cons that the Hudl doesn't have a File Manager.  Not a problem as there are loads of free downloads and mine works perfectly but what the heck were Tesco thinking not to incorporate one?  Two cameras and no File Manager.

Very odd. Maybe to keep cost down they conceded that customers would download their own. ES File Explorer is my fave but there are many good ones

So far I only use mine for browsing pics but I will have to start to explore its full potential.  I used to have to get up for work at 5AM and even though I'm now retired I get up every day at the same time.  Knackered by 9PM!
