BBC and feminisation of sport

Next years Open Golf Championship will be the last televised by the BBC live.  However, there are plans afoot to extend coverage of women's golf beyond the Women's open currently labouring on your screens.  On Saturday the BBC will show live the Women's FA Cup Final.  At a recent meeting of BBC executives a case was made for increasing coverage of women in a whole range of sports as a cheaper and "more inclusive" alternative to men.  A women's F1 Championship is under consideration and there was some support for televising women's snooker.  When it was pointed out that the viewing public would not wear highest breaks in the 40s or 50s in many matches it was seriously suggested that the tables might be made smaller and pockets made larger.

You have been warned.

This is what happens when you lose your flagship tv program bringing in millions. While I'm all for more women's sport on TV, they're really scraping the barrel aren't they? - snooker?, gimme a break

More women's football is where it's at

Apparently on Saturday afternoon BBC had Women's FA Cup Final on 1, Women's Open Golf on 2 and Women's Cycling on the red button.  A well-known non-PC commentator was overhead regarding the women's golf to the effect that "...half the bloody caddies are better at golf than the players."

I thought the England women's team was brilliant. I enjoyed watching their journey, their passion, desire and honesty.

It was the women's cup final the other day and I got bored after 5 minutes. Turned over. Most of the England team were on the pitch.

Without being sexist I struggle to get into their game. I think it's the lack of strength and the ear piercing shouts that puts me off.

Apologies for airing again a pet obsession of mine.  This morning Radio 4's Today programme did a piece on which means most to the Welsh, today's rugby or football matches.  As advocate of the football we had a very balanced and knowledgeable Robbie Savage.  In the interests of "balance" the editor and producer obviously decided that a WOMAN was needed to support the rugby case.  Step forward Ruth Jones, actress and writer, who introduces her piece by saying she knows little about rugby, never watches it and wasn't going to the game.  Absolute BBC bullshine.  How they get away with this kind of rubbish is beyond me.
