Decent showing by the lads v a strong Foxes side. Disapointing to lose as we had the majority of the chances. Aidy White & Grant Ward were the pick of the new lads but a good run out v quality opposition.

White is no left back, was better on the wing. Richardson did ok when he came on covering at L back. Rayner is on about Bowery, JCH as more scope for me. C backs Collins & Thorpe didn't work, Halford in place of Collins for me. Agree G. Ward grew into the game. Liked Maguire, Ladesma did well. SE as got a selection headache for opening league game.

Agree that White and Ward were the standout players last night. First half we stood off them and let them have the ball but they did little with it and our defence stood firm - a tedious half of few chances to be fair. But the game came to life in the second as we got at them in their defensive third, not allowing them time on the ball - of course this pressing created gaps at the back and it was a couple of quick breakaways and premier league skill that got their goals. We had chances, Bowrey will wonder how he screwed his effort wide with only the keeper to beat. Derbyshire should have had a penalty and there were a coulple of balls that fizzed across the six yard box that just needed a toa on em to be a goal. But Ward's goal was a peach, he picked it up, ran at their defence and used his quick feet to find the space to hit a fearsome shot that was in the back of the net before Schwarzer even saw it. Have to disagree about the centre back pairing, I thought Collins and Thorpe looked solid and at least played the ball rather than lumping it long every time - I think this partnership will develop into something very good us. But man, I had kittens with the sight of Richardson and Bowery down the left, we were asking for trouble with that formation, hope we don't try that one in the league.

I thought it was a decent workout but the player I was most disappointed with was the goalie - thought he could have done more with, especially, the second strike.
