Challenges for next season

well we have totally rebuilt our squad this summer and on paper the gaffer has brought in good solid players across the team, a mixture of youth and experience. 11 new players is a lot and a new coach with new ways of working and styles, exciting for us as fans. Credit needs to go to the board for continuing to back one of Rotherhams most successful managers and a guy that brings a little bit of showbiz to the NYS.

We must recognise though that all this change brings a whole set of new challenges to Mr Evans, how to get this new squad to become a team and to do it from day 1 of the season.

Our recent success has been the result of a core group of players that buy into the Rotherham way, hard work and never die attitude, now most of them have gone and we should wish them all good luck even if they do have a little bit of back chat in interviews.

Having a team of 11 talented individuals won't lead to a mid-table finish, only when they become a team, play for each other, close teams down in numbers, break up play quickly and be keen to have the ball when we get it.

We know that some of the new squad won't work out and others will come in when the gaffer knows we need them, we have seen this over the last 3 seasons. That happens at most clubs and we have benefited from a gaffer that will make brave decisions with players and a chairman that has trusted his judgement.

I think that TS and SE can ask only one thing of us in the coming months and we should give it without batting an eyelid, our ongoing support with faith that the new squad will bond and produce a new successful Rotherham United team. We need the new players to see us as a loyal passionate group of fans that even if we get off to a slow start we still believe in the gaffer and in them.

I admit to being jittery 4-5 weeks ago. A lot has gone on since then, some very brave and may I add costly in wages anyway signings. On paper it looks promising, much more so than this time last year. I hope the bravery pays off & the Rotherham public back it by filling out that gorgeous stadium and watching some excellent talent on show. Just wish I could be there more often

Another exciting season ahead. Who could ask for more. Has there ever been 3 seasons of such intrigue, hope, and adventure.

Very interested to see how Eric black works out on and off the pitch. It will be vital that he fits in and his contribution is seen to add.

There are a couple of players who will miss out initially and all of them expect to be first choice. I think there's gunna be more drama this season in that respect. Hopefully the strong on and off the pitch rise to the top and an imbalance is avoided.

Nothing really to add, other than i dont fear the League One Grim Reaper, In Evans we trust.

Also make sure no one is on holiday when it comes to Easter and loan signings, i dont want to have to go thru that again.

I am optimistic for the coming season for a number of reasons, the main one being the versatility of the squad. I have just got back from Scotland where we saw lots of different permutations and shuffling around of the squad. It is evident that Steve has put together a group of players who look comfortable in a number of different positions. This is an essential ingredient if we are to go with a squad of around 22 players with the odd loan signing if and when it proves necessary. What is beyond doubt is that this is a stronger squad than last season with much more Championship experience. The real test will be how quickly they gel together as a team.

Leeds, wednesday. hull, QPR, Brentford, Bristol, Derby, Boro, Brighton, have all spent big.

In terms of spending I suspect we are near the bottom as we havent paid a fee for anyone...have we?

Other clubs have squads twice the size of ours. Its good being a Miller however because we know we are going in the right direction and have pride and belief in our top guys. It has the feeling of a club thats led by passionate people. Dont need anymore.
