Well I watched the game in the middle of a lot of Forest fans sat high up in the Brian Clough stand with my son and his friend, as he is a Forest fan. Hard to listen to their bizarre views on the game however you get a wonderful view of the game there and can see the whole flow of the game so clearly.
Overall I thought we did ok, I think Evans views after the game were a little rose tinted glasses but he has to try and be positive. For 30 minutes our tactics seemed to be working, we kept the ball well and the possession statistics show that. Arnie, Frecks and Smallwood were controlling the game in that first period, however the 2 bookings (both correct decisions) were crucial at the end of the first half.
The danger was always Antonio for them, basically Forest had one attack method which was him. Having Sammon as the cover for Hunt on Antonio was a huge risk and one that cost us dearly in the end. I would have preferred to see a faster player in that role as Hunt was having to sit very deep to anticipate the runs. For me the goal came from two mistakes and a lovely finish. Sammon lost the ball (again) and the goalie was too far out of his goal. The striker was going nowhere the CB had him covered and there was no need for Collin to be 6 yards off his line when the ball was played. It was a lovely lob but would have been routine if Collin had his positioning right. I know I have gone on about the keeper being out of form recently, but I do think his positioning in the last 6 or so games has been poor and is leading to a high ratio of shots on targets to goals ratio. He is a decent keeper but is out of form.
The second goal killed the game, both Arnie and Smallwood had to pull out of tackles because they had already been booked that provided the chance to Antonio a good shot low and in the corner game over. I was probably being hard on the keeper last night about that one it was just a good goal.
The second half we gave it our best shot and here is the main thing, that was our best shot and forest never got out of 3rd gear, they coasted. Yes we hit the post Derbyshire and Frecks missed very good chances, Sammon miskicked his and the keeper saved it, but you always felt Forest could have stepped it up and got more goals.
Bottom line we weren’t good enough, we are in the bottom six for a reason we just don’t have the quality that these other teams do, and that is to be expected as we don’t have the budget. Still think win the three winnable home games we will be safe, but I think we need to turn up for the important games not like the first halves against Millwall and Wigan.
I agree re sammon. He was a very clear weakness for me on Saturday and you have highlighted the same issue. I'm surprised evans has stuck with it. It pushes both men outside their comfort zone and strengths.
Collin likewise - he has too many 'not quite' moments and if we stay up then this would be my first recruitment priority.
on the crucial note of wins and points, I do not think we will win 3 more games. It really might be a case of hoping wigan and Millwall and now fulham can't win more than us. The latter have an incredible 3 games against the rest of the bottom 4.

I said to my son that the team we have couldn't have played much better. But we have hundreds of thousands and they have millions so what can you do. Antonio was a class act last night but I still think we played better as a team but no million pound cutting edge to score the goals or provide that something special. Overall I came away happy we played well didn't roll over and can go into Saturday's game with a little bit of confidence.
