Was on the 5 live phone in this morning. Can't help but think that FIFA will do what FiFA want to do. That being the case I think the qualifiers will throw it, playing kids etc. The PL clubs will be put under enormous pressure from TV companies, they certainly don't want to lose all the PL stars for 6 weeks and have the reserves playing.

On the flip side, it's an excellent opportunity to once and for all bed into the calendar a winter break in this country, which has been needed for years. This also needs to trickle down to youth level. All logic is defied that we try and play our main season during 3 months of the year where the surfaces are so prone to being unsuitable, yet the other 9 months it will more often than not go without a hitch. A winter World Cup would change this

Like you say Ex Fifa will do what they want, the 2020 World Cup will be seen as one last Pay Day by some cry

As for winter break, well Im a traditionalist I like the fact that the 3rd round of the FA Cup takes place on the first week in January. A winter break to avoid the bad weather? can we predict the bad weather coming in the break and not after causing more backlog of games?

I see your point re the state of the pitches and the threat of games being unplayable but its been like that since God was a Lad and if it wasnt for the TV companies (and a few forigners) I think a Winter breaak wouldnt get a 2nd thought.  Anyway Summer is when we don the flannels and play Cricket biggrin

Total joke the whole thing, not including the awful human rights record and the way they treat foreign workers.

Sit back with a cold one - I have a feeling this will be one hell of a showdown and Blatter is a dead man walking.

I can never shake the notion that certain elements of FIFA are just anti-English alltogether
