I have an old video cassette that has the only bit of film of a dearly departed. I've been afraid of taking it anywhere (certainly couldn't part with it- send it off for conversion). I would love to have it on dvd and available on file for playback (currently more supported long term storage and not as prone to corruption) It's a peculiar problem wrought by the digital age.
I've got a big box of v.h.s. tapes with old Rotherham games on, plus all my recordings from t.v. with old favourites like Steptoe & Son, Rising Damp, Only Fools & Horses, Friends, and loads of films etc, etc that I'm very reluctant to throw away even though my v.h.s. player/recorder no longer works!
If I'd got some footage of my late mum and dad then I would be just the same as you Ian and be very scared of losing it by trusting the tape to someone who doesn't have the same feelings for it as you do!
Memories are special and very personal and to have some old recordings with your loved ones on makes it even more special, so I really wouldn't know what to do if I'd got any!
You must do what is right and trust your own judgement Ian!
