I posted a thread about how Derbyshire looked the weakest of all our forwards after the first handful of games. Couldn't quite find it to dig it up. The slow, weak and woeful player I was blasting is slowly growing in confidence. Today he played with strength, skill, awareness and determination. This is literally the sort of striker we have been looking to sign. It should be seen as no coincidence that this upturn in form is matched by us having a promising looking striker in Ward breathing down his neck wanting his shirt. Matt's clever runs are starting to pay off and I've enjoyed watching him partner the battering ram from the Rams in the last few games. Not 100% won over yet, but he's finally starting to come good. Keep it up Matty!
Good evening lads, good win to-day & hopefully upwards & onwards.I am also not totally convinced with MD & we can't say he's not had a good run in the team, but he as started to score. We must push on now , some hard games coming up but let's try & move away from the bottom altogether.I would like to be safe well before end of season. And when we are safe we can plan for next season,we must drop the 40 players in & hope 2 or 3 come good, we will not keep getting away with this strategy.
When a striker gets his mojo back and I think MD has, then I think they go from strength to strength. Let's hope so. We have the makings of a team again and I am fairly confident we can average a point a game from the remaining fixtures - at least. Great 3 points today, espesh as all others around us failed.
As far as i'm concerned MD has been making the exact same runs every time he's played...it just hasn't come off for him, now it's happening for him and people think he's a different player.
I swear he headed that ball across the goal to himself for him to head it in. That's how much he has improved.
I kinda think he is the same player as always but the missing ingredient was confidence. I saw it flood into him when he made the Bolton keeper make a great save from his shot and the crowd stood up and applauded. 2 minutes later he scored his first league goal for us. Not looked back since.
I think it says alot about the majority of the crowd at NYS that MD has been embraced even though his finishing was sometimes pitiful. The frustration that the fans were experiencing was replicated in Derbyshire himself and both have now shared the relief and delight now that he appears to be on a roll. His overall contribution is enormous and now he's started scoring he's almost the complete player. However, I could beat him in the air!
