The Terrorist-what can be done.

I am sure we all sickened by this latest attack on innocent individuals and freedom, by unthinking, unfeeling extremists; but what can be done that isnt being done?

Do we have to pump all our resources in to anti-terrorism?

Is this a time for unprecedented international coalition of civilised nations (the west, east, asia and african nations for example).

Should our laws of freedom by examined and strengthened somehow?

Another sad and disturbing day for the world...

It seems that anything said, reported or printed that these "Terrorists" disagree with will be threatened with violence.  The World will be blackmailed or held to ransome by these retarded idiots.

Nowhere will be safe, if they want to turn up in any Country and inflict attacks on soft targets then they will. These "people" want wipeing out asap!

We all have our opinions on the matters, mine are probably too extreme to post on here, but if we don't get a grip soon, I fear a World War will ensue

I am tolerant and liberal but as an atheist I find all religion especially Islam a horrid creed. How do we tolerate people who refuse to tolerate any opposite view?

I think it starts with respect and dialogue.

There has to be a negotiated settlement, but the historic wounds and mistrust are major obstacles.

Either we live together with difference, all believe the same thing and get an equal share, or, we fight and cause misery.

I believe in difference and I agree there are old wounds. However I would resist anyone who wants to impose religion on me or mine, especially one that is essentially misogynistic and oppressive in nature. Yes that includes many Christians too.

I guess it's not just a few individuals we are talking about. And it's not a few disenfranchised groups. It's thousands around the world. And if thousands are prepared to fight then there must be 10x that figure who actively 'support' them.

My concern is we have no actual solution because we are compromised by our life style commitment to money and oil.

It is a problem as old as civilisation

I have the feeling that no one appreciates religious extremism and would like to eradicate it from their country. I'm also sure that we will all feel reassured by moderate Muslims saying that this extremism is not part of the Islamic faith, which I full understand, but how do we weed out the fundamentalist Imams who appear to be responsible? As far as I can see, the only people who can do this are people of the faith who either know who they are or suspect them, point an accusatory finger in their direction.

You are right. Truth is they can't be.

Only option is limiting immigration from opposing cultures even more and working harder as a government and society to increase factors that lead to integration.

What a mess!

We can use the law to ensure anyone who preaches hate in any religion feels the full weight of the law.

We could also try and get Muslims to start grassing each other up instead of going to ground and keeping quiet like they did with their Rotherham child abuse scandal.

Going back to NZ on Wednesday thankful in a way to live in a peaceful part of the world, really don't know what the answer is. We can't just go back in time but we have to have a positive and forceful response to such horrible beliefs

Agree with Heman....

We seem to be ok at identifying people who pose a threat but not tough enough with them and of course their immediate family members as its inconceivable that they are unaware of the situation.
