Why Panic?

We are in a tight league where a couple of wins would see us up into mid table, and the whole situation would lookdifferent. With the new players being brought in we can look towards playing in a different way and the more these players get the chance to play together then the better they will be.

Steve Evans and the Millers are at a watershed, the "Old Guard" have been tried and tested and have failed to impress. SE has brought in young talented players and changed the style of play.  We will see if these players can do any better? Finances etc constrict what we can offer wages wise so we have to make do with the loan market and players available from the bottom of the pile.  You have to sieve through a hell of a lot of sheet to find a diamond. We have to ride the lows as well as the highs and its a long way to the end of the season yet. Avoiding relegation has always been the main prioraty, this is well and truly still in our own hands, so keep the faith and enjoy the experience smile

I don't think it's panic or moaning, it's just the rationale really.

Yes we know that we're limited to what we can do under FFP rules.  But the huge waste of resources going on is management failure.  For me I'd rather have a smaller squad with more quality, then use the loan system if injuries take their toll, rather than fill that budget with panic buys, poorly scouted players who are found not to be good enough after one game etc etc.

We can survive in this league, Bournemouth have done it, Brentford are doing it, and Peterborough have done it a fair bit over the last few years.  And they've found assets that they've managed to sell on for enormous profit.

I freely admit I didn't want SE in the first place, but he has done a sterling job albeit with nice budgets in league comparison.  He's changed his style, he's an active figure in the community.  All very admirable or is it really an insurance policy? Legendary status buys you time in times of need.  Ronnie Moore would have hammered that into him countless times.  We all know what his methodology is when it comes to squad building, and I don't agree with it.  I'm not necessarily saying it's wrong (what am I to know?), it is however my opinion that it will be the failing of us.

The fact these kids came in, so what if they set the world on fire? - they'll be going back in 8 weeks time and we'll be back to the same old same old, worse off for it because our own players will lose confidence as they're being replaced by kids with no experience.

To survive in this league you need a dependable 14 or 15 players who for the most part play regularly week in week out.  This brings organisation, discipline and that added spice of chemistry that can turn moments into goals and wins.  We are so far from that it's unreal.  It appears that even SE doesn't even know who his best 11 are, and why is that? - because the players he chose to bring would be lucky to get a run out in L1 never mind the championship.

Totally agree with all of that, the young uns SE has brought in showed promise, and at least we tried to play a bit, looking forward already to the next one! I think your 'watershed' sentence is bang on.

These are all very valid points Exeter, but the caveat is that SE-PR-TS, have done it twice in a row. same situation-same formula.

You are right to say we can survive and we have a much better set up than in 82, or 2002. Donny managed 4 seasons, so can we.

However, yes it is potentially a worrying trend...

id like to see a settled 11 week in week out too cry more game time together can only breed familiarity between team mates and more confidence.  But we have what we have and will just have to make do and make the best of the situation.  However, hindsight is always going to be a winner smile
